Beans for more Optimism

Do you sometimes have the feeling that nothing is going the way you want it to and even if you want it you have no energy and no possibility to change it.

In this case I want to tell you a little story of Hans Heß and give you a possibility to make visible also small steps forward.

White beans of happiness

Once upon a time there was a wise old man. He was often asked why he was always so happy and content, to which he replied: "It comes from the beans" and smiled. "You know, I look at the positive things, the beautiful things in life, and this is what I do: I have some white beans in my left pants pocket. Whenever I encounter something nice during the day, when I've had a nice conversation, been given a smile, had a good meal tickle my taste buds, or something else good has happened, I take a bean out of my left pocket and put it in my right. In the evening, as the day draws to a close, I take the beans out of my right pocket, count them, and thus let my positive encounters of the day pass me by once again. I relive the things that made me happy today and I know this day was worthwhile. As a result, I focus more on the positive aspects of my life."

People then often said, "There are black beans, too!"

To which the wise man replied, "Why should I look at those? Of course, I also notice the black beans, the negative sides, but I don't pay attention to them, so that they don't become too big, take up too much space and ultimately burden me."

Try it like this!

Instead of beans, you can use stones or marbles or whatever you like.

Don't be surprised if it sometimes takes you a little longer in the evening to remember why that bean is in your right pocket. You'll get fast with time.
